9000 Chinese Internet cafes suffered from illegal mining

According to the Chinese CCTV news publication, Henan Provincial Police in China arrested 15 people on suspicion of illegal mining. Law enforcers say that mostly among them are administrators of Internet cafes who infected computers with a Trojan. The virus allowed an attacker to mine cryptocurrency on infected PCs.

According to authorities, the scheme was invented by businessman Zhang. His company developed the virus, and the businessman himself created a network of 2000 system administrators of Internet cafes. Zhang paid them to install the virus on computers. In total, from June 2017 to July 2019, the "salary" of administrators amounted to about $2.7 million.
