A group of hackers were arrested who stole Bitcoins worth €24 million

On June 25, the UK South-West Regional Cybercrime Unit (SW RCCU), in a joint operation with the Dutch police (Politie), Europol, Eurojust and the UK National Crime Agency (NCA), arrested 6 people.


Theft of Bitcoins for 24 million Euros

The victims of hackers were at least 4,000 people. The amount of stolen cryptocurrency was 24 million Euros in Bitcoins. Information about the delay of intruders was published on the official website of Europol. 

The arrests of the perpetrators were carried out simultaneously on Tuesday morning, June 25, in several cities in the UK, as well as in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and were the result of a 14-month investigation.

The criminal scheme for the theft of cryptocurrency was the so-called typosquatting. This is the registration of popular domain names and the creation of fake sites, funds, organizations for the exchange or collection of digital money. Among the detainees was one woman who was engaged in faking sites of famous exchanges.

Now, the names of the criminals are unknown. The Europol website reports that the case was transferred to the European Cyber ​​Security Center, where, after processing the information, it will be handed over to the court.
