Rakuten, the Japanese giant, opens a new payment subsidiary

Rakuten, a Japanese e-commerce firm, announced the opening of a new payment subsidiary, which includes its own cryptocurrency business, – tells company, January 21st.

Rakuten, informally known as "Amazon of Japan," originally announced last August that he would try to reorganize his various branches to improve the accountability and decision-making processes.

The company now declares that it will rename its subsidiary Spotlight Inc. in the Rakuten Payment new division, which will also manage its cryptocurrency exchange.

The launch of the company

Rakuten Payment, along with other details of the restructuring, should begin before April 1, according to the accompanying press release of the company.

After the launch, it will generate access for two operations: Everybody's Bitcoin cryptocurrency exchange, which Rakuten also acquired last August, and the Rakuten Edy card service.

Officials explained in a press release: "We were preparing a reorganization of the group by splitting companies to clarify accountability, improve management efficiency and optimize resource allocation, and thus continue to expand  Rakuten system and maximize corporate value."

Rakuten has been interested in the crypto-sphere for several years, deciding to accept Bitcoin (BTC) for the first time on his platform in 2015.
