Blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, has been named one of the greatest inventions in recent history. The interest in blockchain technology has spread everywhere, is actively continuing its development in the world and carries with it countless work aimed at improving our life and ecology.
What will the massive deforestation lead to
About 30% of the world's land is forested. But unfortunately, sections of forests that make up about half the size of England are lost every year.
The causes of deforestation are mainly related to the production of commodities, but there are also many other reasons, such as:
- The collection and creation of ingredients for commodities, such as palm oil, which is obtained from palm trees.
- Cleaning up the territory for new buildings, fields, pastures and farms for the production of meat, crops and other types of products or drinks of mass production.
- For harvesting wood to create paper, houses, furniture, etc.
If the world's rainforests continue to be destroyed at such a pace, they will completely disappear in the next 100 years.
This can cause serious problems for humanity, as trees provide several benefits. They help prevent global warming due to their ability to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen in its place, and deforestation actually accelerates the process of global warming.
In places like Indonesia and Brazil, rainforests are being cut down very rapidly. In Indonesia, this is being done to make way for palm oil plantations. In Brazil, due to the lack of a centralized land cadastre in the country to clear pasture land for livestock.
Also, due to deforestation, the population of the world's forests — birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles — has declined by more than 50% over the past 40 years. Scientists warn that this could have disastrous consequences for the forest ecosystem and accelerate climate change – many animals play an important role in maintaining tree health.
This is a problem, the effects of which are felt throughout the world.
Blockchain is revolutionizing sectors across the globe, and this technology can be a good tool to prevent further massive illegal logging and the threat of global warming.
How blockchain will help to counter the problem of deforestation
Blockchain can fix the existing environmental problem and help prevent further deterioration of the situation. The technology can be used to provide more accurate records, increase the transparency of timber supply chains and ensure the legitimacy of participants in the logging industry.
Blockchain is effective when it comes to maintaining the integrity of any kind of records, such as land records or logging permits. Although enforcement is left to local law enforcement in forest areas, the blockchain can provide governments with a way to track changes in forest cover over time, making land records unchanged. Blockchain can also be used to track pieces of wood from the moment they are registered to their final destination throughout the supply chain.
This will give regulators a much broader view of the entire forestry industry and at the same time encourage loggers to follow the law.
The TreeCoin project is already working on a solution to these global problems.
The project uses Blockchain technology and created Hybrid Token Offering (HTO), an alternative to traditional investments.
“We bought fallow lands on which we plant eucalyptus trees. They grow rapidly and will serve as an alternative to rainforest timber. By offering the wood of our planted eucalyptus trees, we save the rainforests from further deforestation.”
“The mission of TreeCoins is to preserve nature.”
The problem of global warming is one of the most important problems of our time, which requires the concerted efforts of all governments and citizens. And although the blockchain will not resume losses, the technology can certainly help us develop the tools that are needed to improve all the tasks of this industry and prevent a global global catastrophe.
